Pollyanna Hangs out with Super Heroes

Lyda here. My son is my hero, but I got to spend a couple of hours with a couple more heroes too.

This week, the Resident Sith Master and I saw “Hancock” [2008] at the movie theater. We liked it a lot. Will Smith does his bad boy / action hero thing well – and looks hot while doing it. Charlize Theron was great – also looking hot of course. And Jason Bateman was an inspired casting decision – he was awesome. And hot in a nice-guy-next-door way. Okay, enough hotness, moving on.  Jae Head did well playing the son of Jason Bateman’s character. In fact, all the kids in this movie can actually act. Call me crazy, but I like that in a child actor.

Last week, we saw “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” [2008]. If you liked the first movie, you’ll like this one. And we did like the first one a lot. If you didn’t like the first movie, WTF?  There was plenty of action, plenty of fun, and plenty of interesting fantasy characters. Besides, it’s hard not to like Ron Perlman – even the red suit doesn’t hide his appeal.

Both of these movies were funny, action-packed, and even touching at times. And that’s what I’m looking for in a summer movie, ya’ll.

Youngest boy is a big fan of Hell Boy. He watched it so much, for a while, that I told him once a day was enough. I did not see the thrill. However, Hell Boy II looks better. Since Lyda likes it, I will give them another chance. Youngest boy Loved Hell Boy II

We liked it a lot. But more than once a day – I’m not sure even I can watch the same movie more than once a day… except maybe “The Princess Bride” or “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” because those are just genius.
